Detection and Diagnosis through Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA)

Osteoporosis is typically asymptomatic until the first fracture occurs, leading to rapid bone loss and an increased risk of fragility fractures, even without trauma or falls. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is recommended for the detection of osteoporosis. Evaluation helps categorize candidates as either 'high risk' or 'very high risk'. Risk factors include low body weight, steroid treatment, smoking, alcohol intake, menopause, and poor dietary habits.
